Went to the taxidermist and picked up my sika today. Had to move some other mounts around, but I think I finally got him where I wanted him. Here are some of his new buddies 8pt 14pt

You shot that little sika?? Room is getting full for a married man! Who did the mount? I'm betting it wasn't Punky, cause I can see one thing that tells me the taxidermist don't know sikas well.

Dave, Jason Kephart of Oakcreek Taxidermy did it for me. He is a new taxidermist in the area. What do you see wrong with the mount? I was satisfied for the price I paid. BTW, I've got a couple more mounts that I didn't post (Canvasback, Brant, another 8pt and 2 ducks on the way). The wife knew what she was getting into before she got married.

Bart, the taxidermy work looks good, but I see lots of people mount them that don't do the antler bases right. They always forget how much fat and flesh they took off around the pedicles and don't fill it with clay when doing the mount. You don't see adult stags with prominent pedicles that often, it's pretty flat between the antlers in real life. Look at a sika skull sometime and you'll see a good inch plus of bone under the antler, sticking up over the skull, before you hit actual antler. But when the skin goes on there shouldn't be much of a valley there. On young spikes and button sikas the pedicle height is very visible where they haven't aged and built up fat there yet, but not on stags old enough to be branch antlered.
Do you have a good pic of the deer when you killed it? Look at the forehead on it. Look at the pic of the stag in the Seducer banner atop this page, too, and you'll see what I mean.
Didn't mean to pick on your mount, it's just one of the first things I look for on sika mounts to see if the taxidermist knows what he's doing.

Dave, went back and looked and you are correct. I thought the pedicles seemed a little prominent. This was only his 6th sika, so I was satisfied. This sika had multiple gouge wounds as well as piece of an antler broke off in his forehead.

Other than the details only a "SIKA SLAYING FOOL" would notice. It looks awesome. I hope to get a mountable stag this year. I have the spike under my belt so I'm moving on to a 4 point.

Very nice looking stag Bartman. I got mine back from Jason as well. Mine has that same feature Osprey pointed out to you about your mount. I'm thinking I'll pass on this info. to him. He is a good hearted fella and is always looking to improve on his skills! Have you said anything too him since Osprey pointed this out to you?

First and foremost I want to take the opportunity to say thanks for the opportunity and business Bart and collin have given my family- always appreciated.
Customer service and satisfaction is always first with me.
Secondly, I appreciate the comments and criticism on the mount. Osprey's comments help tremendously and he is correct that I am new to sika anatomy. This season I have spent numerous hours taking in referance from field photos, trail cameras from muddy marsh and even volunteered with DNR's trapping sika program solely for the opportunity to study this animal.
You can guarentee any sika coming out of my shop now will have this area defined correctly. I take times like these to advance my knowledge and upgrade my quality.
Thanks- and also look forward to future visits here to Buckwildadventures

Oakcreek, I went along on that tagging one night too, what a hoot. Pretty wild to lay on top one of those bleating black buggers!
I don't think you ever stop learning about animals, especially sika. My buddy has been mounting them for 30 years and is still learning and changing little things on his mounts. He's taught me a lot about what to look for.

Welcome aboard Jason. You know you've got my business in the future. I can always appreciate anyone trying to improve what they do. I think Osprey got kicked out of the sika netting project the night he brought his own KY and rubber gloves.

Welcome to the site. As I said the mount looks great. Do you do other animals as well?
