Busco, Leave about a 6ft space between the edge of the woods and your clover because the trees will leach the life out of it also look at the trees and see if they overhang the field when the leaves fall they will smother the clover. So you might have to plant a little farther out.

thanks for the advice. due to the layout of the land i have probably 30 feet between the corn and trees.on 3 sides and railroad tracks on the other.... it slopes down hilll and kept the corn on mostly flatter ground

Busco, You might want to consider leaving the grass as a buffer between the woods and your plot on our plots we always have something with a little height between the two we have found the deer feel more comfortable coming into the plots with this. We tried sorgum this year and it worked pretty good until they matured and the deer took all the tops off them and killed them lasted until mid november. Also just from our obsevation we have found odd shaped food plots tend to have fewer but more well defined trails than the square food plot which will have numerous trails all around it making it difficult to pick a spot for a stand. hope this helps we have been planting food plots for 11 yr's now last year we had 12 plots ranging in size from 1/2 acre to 11 acres. This weekend coming we will be planting our spring summer plots as long as the weather is nice.
