Im making the switch from alluminum to carbon. :DI got Easton Epic 400 carbon arrows and since I have to get a new rest, I want to get a drop-away rest. Any good ones for under $100? ;D Also, I have been shooting Muzzy 100gr., but was wondering if I should go down to 85gr. since my bow is set at 60 lb. Any advice here for this "ideal setup" of mine? I have a 07 Fred Bear Element set at 27" and 60lbs. -Thanks!

Im not a big fan of drop away rests myself and really do not have any advice on one for under a hundred bucks but I would'nt drop the weight of that broadhead. Might be the right setup on paper but I would stick with the 100 grain for that added durability and energy at the point of impact. Just my opinion. Im glad to see everyone did'nt drop muzzy's when the rages came out. Im a big fan of muzzy's myself.

yea, I like muzzy's but I may try the 4 blade Slick Tricks. Everyone one archery talk swears by them. Im not much, or even see a good reason for mechanical broadheads. Just something else that could break. I also talked to a guy who tested broadheads on his own for noise, penatration(using a phone book) and if they planned or not. He said the 2 best were G5 and Bunker buster broadheads. He said the G5 was super quite, great penetration, and did not plane at all. The only bad thing about Muzzy's is the alumium farrell, as to where G5 has steel. But, broadheads are the least of my worries right now. What up with this wind??? 35mph? I hope it dies down by tomorrow morning. Im hunting a thicket backed up to some hardwoods and a small marsh about 100 yrds. from the river! Its gonna be real windy 20ft. up in the air by the river at 5 in the morning!

I tried a drop away for the first time this year i shot 4 arrows pulled it off and sold it on ebay and bought a whisker biscuit really easy to tune and it doesnt seem as though i lose a lot of arrow speed . Arrows i shoot a cheap Monster buck hunter carbon by Vapor with Muzzy 4 blade 100gr never lost a deer with these and always pass throughs(knock on wood) with my bow set up at 65# and 28'' i just like these and refuse to switch from the fixed blade muzzys, I even have them on my crossbow bolts but in 3 blade 125 gr now those leave HOLES

I'm with Big Fox and JLwade, I shoot GT Pro Hunters cut to 27" and tip them with Muzzy MX3 100gr broadheads (or the 100gr Muzzy Phantom), they weigh in about 368grs. They launch out of my 68# Hoyt lasertech like a freakin' rocket and hit right where I aim. I use a whisker biscuit and blazer vanes, couldn't be happier! ;D I've put three deer down this year, the last one a 5pt that dropped in his tracks (the arrow deflected off a rib and took out his spine after going through a lung).

I shoot Muzzy 100grain 3 blades on 26 3/4" carbon with blazer vanes. Seem to work well. I had a bad experience with a mechanical a while back and have never wanted to shoot them again. I like how the rage blades deploy, but like other people have said it is just another thing to go wrong. I shot a deer last week that sounds like it was the exact opposite of mdbowhunter. Went in through the spine then through ribs!
I am also shooting a slotted whisker biscuit and Kim at Treestand Archery told me they speed tested the whisker against a typical 2 prong rest and if there was any loss in speed it was only a couple fps, nothing noticeable.

I shoot carbon force predator 300 carbon arrows with a whisker biscuit, and a kisser button. This was the first year I went with blazer vanes I love them. I did get caught drawing back on an 8 pt this year. The buck was only 12 yards when I drew. Me and the deer heard the arrow slide through the whisker biscuit. Maybe I need to draw a lil faster not for sure though. Has this happened to anyone else? ?

I've had a problem with noise while drawing (carbon arrow w/whisker biscuit), but not every time. This afternoon, in the rain, I drew on a doe at 32yds (note to self-pay attention to which pin your using 32-20=12=Doe missing hair from underside) and there was no noise what so ever. I've been thinking about coating the shafts with something to reduce friction. I'll work on that during the off season.
