If you are going for anything local (gar, carp, cownose ray) Any bow will do. Even an old recurve works great. You need special fiberglass arrows. With a special tip that doesn't allow the arrow to pull out. And also a reel. There are several different kinds. Some cheaper ones you hand wind and some that are more of a reel type. I recomend the second kind. They allow a quicker retrieval of a miss, for a second shot. There is all kind of other things you can get but these are the basics.

I'm going to have to agree with HARDCORE. That reel is the ticket - a whole lot easier than trying to spin the thing back on by hand. One thing to mention is to get arrows with the safety slides - besides being safer, they allow the arrows to fly more true. We'll have to go out some time. I do a lot of bowfishing out of the ramp at Charleston Creek - pretty close to you.
