filebox.vt.edu/users/bsweet/Pages/cmindex.htmAnybody ever hear of this group? I just got wind of it from a posting at Shore Sportsman today, took down the names and numbers to contact them, they've got a full slate of shoots and such all year long. The website link hasn't been updated in years (above) but it looks pretty cool. They're located near Ingleside in upper Caroline County.

Talked to one of the members on the phone today, going up tomorrow to a shoot - metal animal silhouettes, 20 rounds. Taking the old .54 sidelock TC Renegade, gonna blow a little smoke. I'll take some pics and get more info...

Man, what a cool day!! ;D Found the place, met a bunch of really nice folks, got to shoot my gun (poorly, but it's been awhile, and geez those targets looked small at 100 meters), got to shoot some other guns and think I found something that's going to hold my interest for a while. If any of you folks are interested in muzzleloading you need to ride over and check out one of their shoots, great bunch of people and all willing to lend a hand and help you out. They shoot once a month most of the year, and even have a frontier period rendevous in October (gotta go full on period dress and gear to go). I think this day is going to cost me. Now I REALLY want a flintlock, and I will probably end up going to one of the bigger rendevous (gotta get dates and locations precise, but one in PA in September and one near Frederick in the spring) and look into all that. Here's some pics from today, all ages there...

looks pretty fun. idk much about it but the way i see it if you have the money i would go with the gun you picked out. the only one i had tried before was a thompson center hawken. idk if that's the same type as they use there or not but i thought it was pretty cool. seems alot like a 3d shoot for bowhunting. hopefully some day i'll get to try it.

I've got a TC Renegade .54 percussion cap, but if I get into the 'vouz stuff I want something relating to an older period, more the longhunter style, plus I just think they look cool. Selling at least one other gun to generate some cash, so that'll help. On the plus side, the flintlocks are pretty cheap to shoot. My inline and even the .54 with sabots costs a few bucks per shot with the darn bullets, but with patched round balls and powder you can shoot flintlocks for pennies a shot!

I've got a .45 Ruger Old Army cap & ball that's quite cheap to shoot (I make my own bullets), but doubt it quailifies for the really traditional style. Really accurate gun - would recommend it to anyone.

I've got a Pedersoli 10 ga side by side caplock here, I think next time I'll take that and just load it with buckshot and knock over all the targets at once!

I've got a Pedersoli 10 ga side by side caplock here, I think next time I'll take that and just load it with buckshot and knock over all the targets at once! One of the older members there had one (Pedersoli 10ga) he never used and wanted $200 for it. I told Steve I'd take it, but he was SLOW getting the word back to the guy. I think that's why he sold me the Pietta so cheap! ;D Heck, he threw in all kinds of stuff, AND a .72 cal roundball mold. (Steve had killed a spike with it. Said it was like "hurling bricks") Another guy I know just got the Ped 10, but with screw in chokes. Worked up a killer load.He was SET for turkey season. Yup,you guessed it.First year in a LONG time he didn't get his two birds.Matter of fact, he never had a shot at even ONE!

I got the screw in tubes with mine, too. Picked it up at Cabelas bargain cave at the Nebraska store 15 years ago on a trip west, something like $250 on sale after a repaired spring, was normally $400 then and they're up near $700 or more now!
Want to try it for turkeys, but haven't yet. Killed a few geese with it, awesome for high flyers with HEAVY loads. Shot it at some DU target shoots. Want to kill a deer with it sometime...

Okay. Now it sounds like your having one of my "odd" ideas. I've been wanting to use one for EVERYTHING one year: Deer, turkey, squirrel, ducks, geese, predators, etc I've been fighting my choke situation though. I have one cyl/cyl and one imp/imp. Plus, my wonderful Chinese made,Navy Arms labeled 12 ga, inline, BP, Poly-choked,synthetic-stocked monstrosity . It made it two shots before it came apart. I put it back together and touched off # 3. It's STILL apart! I bought it NIB for $69,and think I paid too much. These things are addictive, that's for sure. And most importantly, FUN! (Hmm,72 cal roundballs, and GAR? )
