I got lucky and stumbled on the MOTHER LOAD!!! The BIG berries, too, size of a quarter or bigger. The bushes are loaded, nobody else has found them and they are just in the first days of ripening. Picked a gallon and a half yesterday myself, already froze some, ate some, taking some to Mom, and have a berry pie cooling on the counter for later. ;D

I got lucky and stumbled on the MOTHER LOAD!!! The BIG berries, too, size of a quarter or bigger. That's funny. I was struggling this morning. picking lots of small ones, thinking that it would take forever to get a gallon. Then I moved about 5 yards downhill, and there were lots of thumbsized ones! Looked around, and it's like that this year:pocket of big ones, then a bunch of little.Repeat. Will hit them again tomorrow depending on how much energy I have after crabbing. It's really slowed down here the last week or so, but then I just heard from a buddy who did real well this morning, and is going after them again tomorrow.

A lot of it is the different types of blackberries. The main edge where I pick has at least 4 different species/cultivars of blackberries. One is the typical wild, small berry. One is a more upright bramble that has 1/2" - 1" berries. Third is a trailing/climbing bramble that has the big berries often 1-1 1/2" big, with large 1/16" seedlets, it's very juicy and sweet. Another grows like that one, but the berries are in clusters and more tart. Amazing how many types there are, and that's before you figure in dewberries, tayberries, loganberries, crosses of commercial plants, hybrids, etc.

These here are the "I got tired of mowing the 10 feet between mine and my neighbors fences a decade ago" variety. Literally 10 feet tall,10 feet wide and couiple hundred feet long.
