Hardcore you made a good choice, Mark's a great guy and THE shark fisherman around OC. And he's also a fellow Daily Times columnist! Tell him I said hi. Fox - fishing trips AND turkey trips coming up?!?!?! It's a wonder you can even concentrate enough to get to work in the morning! ...and since you started speaking of tags, this is the one on the old Jeep. ;D

Wachapreague, VA is about halfway between OC and Norfolk along the shore. Yea, Buckmaster if you hook into a fish that size you better have had your Wheaties and actually that Blue fin tuna is only about 65 lbs. and they get much bigger than that. I think Big eye tuna get to be several hundred pounds if I'm not mistaken.I've never caught one of those. I've only caught Yellow fin and Blue fin tuna, Dolphin(Ma hi-Ma hi), sharks and wahoo and that's only because my buddy had the charter business and would take us out for the cost of fuel and bait. He is also a chef, he used to run the Lookout restaurant on top of the Fenwick Inn but he quit there when Ramada bought it and opened a boarding and grooming kennel in Southern Delaware. He always has good recipes for our catch of the day.

You are right Rommel, Bluefin can get giant, the biggest I ever caught was 265 pound, I caught it out of OC on the Marli. I did catch a Blue Marlin a couple of years ago, that was estimated at 500 to 600 pounds. It was 12 feet long, the boat we were fishing on was only 10 foot wide. It was a 2 1/2 hour fight, with about a 45 minute standoff....It will make you say, you never want to catch one of those again...

Bluefin can get WAY bigger. I thonk the all-tackle record is 1400 # or so,off NE coast. Mark has pics/article on his boat.
They used to hook up with a lot in the 300-500 lb range off Hatteras in mid winter.
I like shark best the same as I like most stuff best: On the grill with a little Italian dressing on it. Simple, quick, and MIGHTY FINE! (Dang-now I'm droolin' on the keyboard again!)

Hey Davep, I'm headed to Hatteras in last week of July for a little R&R. What kinda fishin might be around then ? maybe I should look into a trip off shore while I'm there. I'll be there with my brother in law, his cousin and our wives. They won't miss us for one day, will they? Boys will be boys

I used to go there mostly in the fall for surf fishing. A guy I worked with last year would hit it in May and caught some BIG red drum.
I suspect tuna,wahoo,etc will be available.Call around/check web.
The marina in Hatteras kind of across from the Blue Marlin motel used to do make up charters. That way, you're splitting the cost 6 ways if there is only a couple of you. But be warned: A buddy did that a few years ago, and wound up on a charter of "middle aged, alternative lifestyle females".
Matt said the fish were the least foul things!

I did do a little checking and The Tunas and Marlin are running big time in July. I may just pack some surf equipment just to stay on the safe side. I'm thinking beach chair, sun glasses, hat, lotion, cooler and maybe a fishing rod so I don't look like I'm not doing anything at all . I'm not much in the group mixing thing, I've had some experience with that on some out of town hunts, not so much with "alternative life stylers" but with just other hunters from other parts of the country. I choose to hunt and fish with people that I have at least had some contact with before I head out. I do know a few females like Matt was put with and I can't even imagine being stuck on a boat with them all day long. Thanks for the input.

I did the mixed boat thing one time out of NC. Got stuck with this girl that would not shut up! We caught a bunch of fish, so that made it a little better, but I'd rather stick with people I know.

That sounds kind of like having a bug flying around your ear that just won't go away. Can't they just keep quiet while men are working. ;D
