This is always funny to ask people. It took me 14 seasons to kill one! In my defense, I only dabbled with them a bit, once or twice a year, mainly in Garret County. starting on public land in the late 80's when I was at FSU, for most of that span. Wasn't until they got going good on the Shore and we had some around my place that I really hunted them hard and started to learn how to kill them.

If that's the type of wild turkey Big Fox is chasing I bet he FEELS like he's been spurred the next day.

My first season and my fifth hunt of that season. Called in two jakes and had no clue what I was doing. Then nothing the next year, one the next year and nothing last year. I'm averaging one bird every other year so this will be my year to get another.

Still trying.
I went one time with a friend who lives in Garrett Co., 3 yrs. ago. He called in 2 jakes but we passed because there was a tom gobbling like crazy and on his way. Needless to say we didn't get the shot at the gobbler, I guess he'd been called in a few times before because he didn't like what he saw and left the scene in a hurry. I'll be making it a point to get back there this year.

It took me two seasons over the course of 9 years. I was 12 when I first went out with my grandfather and had a bunch of gobblers hang up. Then last year, on my own, I hunted hard and got my first bird. This year I want to either get my limit in MD (preferably Eastern Shore and western shore) or harvest a bird in MD and VA. I also want to get a buddy a shot at his first bird, too.

Like you said... I want to help my buddy harvest his first bird, but as Osprey said, "turkeys dont LIKE foxes".
Poor guy has never even seen one while turkey hunting & it would make my day to get him one this spring, I'm going to give my all; just not on opening day - have to get a bird before the fox scares them all away.

I notice your capitalization of Eastern Shore and western shore........... guess you must be one of those guys; but that's fine in my book.
You do have one thing we don't (SIKA). Sure wish I could catch a couple & let them go over here. ;D ;D ;D

We didn't really have any turkeys around the property till about 20 years ago. My first was during deer season in the snow. Shot a nice tom at about 80 yards through the woods with a 270. Since then, my birds have made quite a comeback. We have killed at least one every spring since. The hunt I remember most was a couple of years ago in the spring, just bought my first decoys, set them up in the clearing we hunt, had gobbling goin all around. Just as I started to see a couple birds, a red fox attacked and started to drag away one of my decoy's, I wish I had a camera, it was unbelievable. Needless to say, we didn't get a bird that day. This year me and my buddy are going to try with a bow. I will call for him and try to get it on film. Can't hardly wait.

It took me quite a number of seasons to get my first bird. The first hunt I was on that a bird was killed was a hunt I called a bird up for my cousin, 22 lb Tom . I shot my first bird a couple of years later in the late 90's in Charles county. Like Osprey I started hunting turks when I was in Frostburg, had many close encounters but just couldnt close the deal. Since then I have killed two on the shore. Hey Osprey, I was at FSU '88 to '91, when where you there? I am looking forward to this spring our farm in Dorchester is loaded!!!
