I had to choke a gobbler once. After I shot, I ran down the hill to get on top of the bird. When I was in the spot where the bird was when I shot, I was amazed to see him running in circles with his head up. Being too close to shoot, I made a lucky grab with my left hand, flipped the bird upside down and squeezed. I was in for the ride of my life! Thank god his 7/8" spurs were dull! My camo glove was torn to shreds and my arm was bleeding but I won the fight. When it was all over, I could not find any sign blood coming from his head. I think I just stunned him. Probably hilarious to see but I was all alone. Figures!

For those of you out there that have taken a Turkey with a bow, what was the hardest part? Was it trying to draw back unseen? If I try this with a bow I wont be using a full blind, it would just be from behind a tree or the porta roof. The deer hunter and I also though about bringing along a climber and having the caller stay back a little while the shooter gets a bit closer and sets up in a tree? ??

You're not going to use a blind?!?! Ohhh, I can't wait to hear these stories! Getting drawn is THE hardest part, I've taken all my bow birds from pop-up blinds.

Hey Buckmaster, I found that video on bowhunting turkeys. It's on VHS, copy right 1986, man what an antique. This things a bit dated but it looks like it has a starting place for you guys. It's feature hunt has Walter Payton killing a gobbler on a guided hunt from a portable ground blind with his bow. I'm leaving tommorow 5am for Chicago and then to Myrtle beach for some golf and adult beverages, I love vacation time. I'm coming down your way on the 31st. I can bring this to you then if you want, let me know. It's kinda fun to watch the old videos.

Any of the "Year on the Ground" DVD's from Double Bull blinds have TONS of archery turkey hunts on them too.

For direct tv viewers, channel 604 has a program produced by Double Bull. They hunt EVERYTHING from a blind. As a matter of fact if you have 604, 606, or 608, there is a turkey hunting show on all the time and alot of bowhunts. After reading a bit today about it, they said to put the blind out in the open and don't try to camoflauge it in with natural grasses and trees. You want a blind that doesn't reflect light. Put your decoys 5 to 10 yards away. Have them facing you. The toms like to show off with thier strut. If the decoys are facing away they could strut fifty yards away, out of range the whole time. When the decoys are facing you they will come inbetween the blind and decoys to strut for attention. It said shoot thru mesh is not necssisary for turkey hunting.

It's been decided!! The Deer Hunter and I are going for our second Turkeys with BOW We will be using a blind and will be setting up a flock of decoys (two jakes and four hens). We will place them about 15yards out and facing us. We are also going to video the hunt, from the truck to the dead turkey with an arrow stuck in it! If all goes as planed then we will post the video right here. Or if everything goes horribly wrong (it just might) then we will still post it. We will be BUCKWILD!!!!

Good luck, can't wait to see it. Does it make me a sadist to admit that I'm hoping just a wee bit for the video of 'gone horribly wrong' ? Good professional videos of archery turkey kills are everywhere, give us something unique!!! A wounded Tom flying in through a blind window while you guys jump out the other two would be a good start... ;D
