Had a good day on thursday's hunt. Seen two does in the morning couldn't get a shot then came in around 9:00 and went crabbing and caught a bushel by 2:00 them back in the woods by 3:30 an killed an 3 pointer at 6:30, big body deer 125 lbs dressed pencil rack. But meat in the freezer, friend was hunting with killed a doe. Friday nothing in the morning too hot, Had family in from out of town so didn't hunt in the evening, but did catch another 3/4 bushel of crabs. First for me to hunt and catch crabs in the same day. Saturday couldn't hunt family thing. Freind 's son killed a doe in the evening. The deer over on the farm are moving 1 hr on the sunrise and 1 hr or so at sunset. Guess the weather got them layed tight in the day. Felt great to be in the woods. Think I try this week in the evening if I can sneak out of work early. When skining the deer was surprised there were no ticks on them. Congrats ot everyone who got deer so far and good luck to the one still hanging in there.

Saw four does Saturday evening early, passed on first two waiting for the gray big girl to give me a shot; there's a reason she is big and gray. Just when she was coming out in the open she hung a left leaving no clean shot. Had a skinny yearling bed down 40 yards from me. She had ribs sticking out; let her ride. All before 5; strange nothing after that.

So the planning and dedication paid off. I snagged this 8 1/2 pointer (the little kicker on the brow tine that I'm not really counting counts as a 1/2 point) on last Thursday afternoon. I'm pretty sure that I saw him the week before while bow hunting so it was extra sweet to get a chance at him with my Knight in-line. The story is pretty straight forward. Hunted all morning 6:30 am to 2:30 pm where I saw him the week before until I couldn't stand it anymore. The cloudiness on Thursday had me hoping they'd move late but that never paid off. I did manage to see 4 does around 8:30 am, but all were out of range. So, I went home grabbed a bite to eat and then headed out to my afternoon spot. This time I'm hiked way up a tree in my climber and was just happy to be refreshed. It's amazing what a 1/2 hour break to do for you eyes. Anyway, the afternoon was just like I left it; slow. I didn't see a deer until 6:15 and it was him. He had me guessing for awhile (under thick holly trees just slowly walking and the wind was blowing) until I finally saw him about 45 yards away. I had to wait quite a bit but he finally stepped out into an opening where I took a shot at his neck/shoulder. After the smoke cleared I saw him on the ground...sweet! Easy tracking! Congrats to everyone else on their deer. It is especially nice to see the younger kids out and about (Osprey continues to be a guide and the Walker boys continue to produce!) Keep it up. -Fever' The little kicker/extra point Bark from recent rubbing

no monsters but at least he was able to get on some deer this time out. Got a small cull buck off the property that the guide wanted killed. Had some issues with the buck, it still had velvet tips on his horns and was a pretty big deer to only be a 6 point. but the doe was a nice one and the guide likes getting those old does off the property to get those young dumb does dragging out the big bucks during the rut. the hunt was a blast. only got one good video clip of my dad getting the doe, the second doe was shot on video too but the smoke blocked the video of the knock down. All in all was a great hunt and great to spend time with my dad. Hope he can make it out for a trophy hunt next year like he was talking about. seen some real monsters on the farm... the 2 guys from Pennsylvania were on Trophy hunts and both missed monsters on the farm.. made me giggle a little.. to bad for them... the two deer dad shot went a combined 0 yards after the shot.. the 250 grain Barnes MX expanders did a real number on them.. some serious knock down.. even got my dad talking about buying one of those smoke pole meat grinders.. ha ha ha

Got out on Saturday. Didn't see a thing in the morning, but in the evening saw 3 small bucks. Two of them were fighting in a field about 75 yards downwind of me. I grunted at them a few times & when they were done, both of them came within 10 yards of my treestand, circled to the field in front of me & went at it again. PRETTY COOL. The rut is on!

Big Fox...what type of gun is that? I like the wood! Aren't the wooden stocks supposed to be slightly more accurate? Unfortunately my muzzeloaders are synthetic stocks...but they at least have cool thumb holes NYStalker...not sure if I'll mount him. Mounts aren't exactly getting cheaper these days and the two I have mounted are similar in size. I'll probably delay mounting anything until I get a monster...that is, if I ever get a monster..ha! Hey, check out one of the two mounts. I got him back in 98'. It's as if the deer I got last week is replica. I think he is definitely from the same gene pool.

the gun used is a Thompson Center OMEGA shooting 250 grain Barnes MX expanders with 100 grains of Pyrodex.. shoots like a champ... and knocks them off there feet.
The guide is Evan Thorne. Lives in Nanjemoy and is a Taxidermist by trade. Should be in the phone book but I can look for his number if you cannot find it.
