don't let him fool you, he might have a few but he can't shoot any of them straight.. especially if a duck is flying by.....

I would say the best thing you can do is to take a hunter safty course. They sound boring but I got alot out of it when I first started. They go over basics that is gonna help you while hunting. Second I would say gun hunting, shotgun or blackpowder, is going to be easier to start out with. Bow is my favorite but, you have to practice alot to get your form down and know the capabilities of your bow. I think weeks of practicing with a bow is equal to hours of practicing with a gun. Buy a bow now, start used or PSE has a few inexpensive models, and by the begining of next archery season you'll be ready to rock. Good luck it is truly a sport that I love!

Jerzeyhunter, These guys turned me on to ducks and bow huntting last yr. they know what they are talking about. I basicly put down my gun for deer and bow only. And the ducks are a blast. Gun wise they have nailed it down. as for the Bows?? Go to your local Bass Pro or Cabelas or what ever? And get meuisured. I just did before I went hunting them Bufflos. What a differents. And the PSE, great bow I'm buying one for Xmass. And we all know Frank can't hit the broard side of the barn ;D ;D put me in for a spot on the BWA duck boat. I 'LL COOK TO ;D

In my opinion, Matthews is the way to go, but they are a little on the high side.

Matthews Rules, but i wouldn't recommend one of those for a beginner. get something a little more affordable till you get use to shooting it and then you will know what you want to buy.. you can go to any archery place and get a good buy on a used bow from someone in yoru same position. People start out with a nice bow and shoot for a few years then move up to the high end PSE's and Matthews bows....

Just got all my info for taking my bow/shotgun/muzzleloader class. The only thing I have to bring is a bow, otherwise they can supply me with a shotgun and muzzleloader. I'm on my way!

What about Parker Compound Bows? They look pricey, but very nice.
