This section has been pretty dead this year, anybody doing anything on them? Gun season? So far for me this year the tally is one decent 8pt back in mid-November with the crossbow, and one doe so far this week for gun season with the rifle.

I've only ventured out 4 or 5 times - I am quite short on time this year. Wish I had something to report.

I heard a report that Big Fox was eating steaks with nice grill marks - truck grill that is, not BBQ!

Finally scored...
Decided late last week that I was going to hunt a piece of property that I have had access to for the past ten years but never hunted. Had scouted there a few times over the years, but never made it there to hunt. The property was recently timbered & Friday morning I went down to make sure there was a tree left for me to hang a stand in.
After a quick walk Friday, I decided on where I wanted to go & was ready for a morning hunt. Got there & hauled my climber in with me - about a 700 yard walk (easy as long as your not walking thru a clear cut, then two swamps like I had to).
About 7:00 I noticed some motion & saw 3 doe. Considered shooting them, but really didn't want to have to drag them out so I just watched them. About 30 minutes later, they started to act funny. I looked behind me and to my left and I see a buck. Without hesitation I raised my gun & pulled back the hammer. Almost simultaneously I aimed and squeezed. It all happened so fast it was a blur. I sat in my stand another 45 minutes hoping I had made a good shot. Got down and looked for blood - nothing. Paced around the 30 yard circle I thought he was standing and still nothing. It was a clear-cut so everything looked the same. Ten minutes go by and still no blood. Looked up & there he was - not 30 yards from where I thought I shot him. I was relieved! I had made a good shot - he didn't go 30 yards....
A little under three hours later he was back in the truck & I was exhausted after that drag out!!!
Pictures are from where he fell - just as he fell - I didn't have to do anything but prop his head up a bit with a stick...

Congrats Frank, that's a great one! I've found the drag out is much easier if you have Big Fox along...

Congrats Frank! That is a real nice one. I'd feel sorry for you if you had to drag a doe for 3 hours, but not that monster!
