First day of gun season! Now if it just felt like it. Moon so bright I could see my shadow at 5:30 this morning when I went out the door. Warm and skeeters! Turkeys yelping in one woods and gobbling like crazy in the next patch of pines. Five longbeards worked by, but no deer. Is it April?!?!
Heard only one shot, 2-3 miles away, all morning. Could hear guys banging sea ducks out on the Bay, 6-10 miles away, so I certainly would have heard any rifle shots. Slowest opening morning I've ever seen.

Still slow tonight, didn't hear much shooting, but had a buddy and his son down and my buddy Ron finally got his first deer after a few years of trying! Nice big doe, dropped her in her tracks. His son has shot a few here, but it was neat to see Ron, at 42, get his first one.

Slow here in western md also, not much shooting at all. Slowest and unusual season and whitetail rut I have seen in yrs. I managed to put a 3 pt buck in the freezer. A mans gotta eat.
