Anybody had any experience with early season rape plantings? I had two strips of Rack Radish in the fall and both, after I tilled in the stubble this spring, came up with gorgeous stands of new rape seedlings. I fertilized them and let them go, they just looked too good to till under, but no clue how they'll fare or be used during summer months? Figure I can always till and replant in the fall, but it's worth a shot...

I've seen it reseed, but never tried to let it go all summer & see how it fares......If you decide to, let us know how it does.

So far it's looking really good, it certainly likes these rains. Foot and a half tall now, covered with flowers, plenty of vegetation. Thick enough so there's not a weed in it! Deer are browsing the strip where they normally travel pretty good, other strip in the front of the field not so much. I'll keep it there for the season just to see how it fares, though.
Would almost be worth it just for the pollinators. Stuff is covered with butterflies and bees. Makes me wish I had a beehive or two (but that would knock this area out of the block for airplane sprays when skeeters get bad. I like no skeeters more than I like honey!!).

What a difference a few weeks makes. Rain and heat have knocked it pretty hard. Much has gone to seed pods, rest is falling over from all the water and sun. Looks like I'll be tilling those strips in August and replanting...but it was worth the try and will give me plenty of green manure to till in.
