Usually do not even think squirrel till after the first big frost.. All the tree rats I am seeing when out have those lumps on them, whatever that parasite it. After the frost they just look healthier and I would think about getting some. I have shot a few in the past and just skinned and quartered them and fried like chicken. It was a bit tough but good. I have heard in the crock pot is the way to go..

I haven't been yet, but it's more because of chiggers. I'll try to get out soon, but on public so I don't spook up the deer here at home.
By the way Troutbum, that's a most excellent avatar pic! Is that you? Details man, details...

Hi, Osprey. No that's not me. But look's like me when i was in uniform.I was into Civil War reinacting. I was with the 5th New York V.I. National Regiment. It was a Zuave unit.Did it for 10 yrs, Was a Confederate too. Too old and over weight to do that any more. I sold the last uniform like that years ago. Was fun . get a chance and read the unit's history.

The squirrel rut is hot where I've been. I had a lot of big buck greys chasing today. Really starting to get excited.

Bart, are you in my squirrel spot again?! I just hung my stand there last week!
Troutbum, I never would have guessed that was a civil war era uniform, I was thinking one of the Scottish regiments from Revolutionary war period. Cool!
