Tagged out this morning on this gobbler. Got to the farm a little late ~ 520. Didn't hear any gobbling on my farm so I eased up towards the road where I could hear two different groups of birds gobbling. I could hear a few birds right across the road. I hit a couple of yelps and clucks and then I mouth gobbled and they ate it up. I could tell they were coming so I stayed quiet. After about 5 minutes I thought I should move a little closer to the road in case the birds hung up. As I stood up, I caught a glimpse of him and another gobbler crossing into the field from across the road. I let him come and dropped him at about 20 yards. Great hunt on a nice cool morning to finish the season. Saw 10 gobblers on the adjacent farms on the way out, so there should be plenty left for next year. Bird had a 10.5" beard, 1 1/8th hooks and dressed at 19lbs. Shot this jake 2 weeks ago in a real exciting hunt. He came in gobbling the whole way.

The best part of turkey hunting. Tonight, I deep fried one of the birds I shot this spring. First, I brined it in a salt/brown sugar/lemon juice solution for 24 hours. Then I put a dry rub of Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning and injected it with creole butter. Can't wait for the leftovers. Before (after a 24 hour brine) After

That would be enough to make me envious - IF I hadn't just had backstrap on the grill last night with leftovers coming today for lunch/dinner.

Osprey, you can have your backstrap all you want. This bird was awesome. Even the wife really liked it. Only bad thing was that the heavy shot isn't soft like lead, at least that is what my molar is currently telling me.
