Ahhh, it begins again! Actually got dry enough that I was able to till up a few acres yesterday, been a turnip patch the last two years and needed to rotate it to something else. Got seed spread and packed in today ahead of the snow, mix of white and red clovers and Tecomate chicory. Felt darn good to get back out on the tractor and smell some fresh turned earth!

Nice, I frost seeded some white clover last weekend. Picked up a couple bags of some radishes and throw and gro on sale at wal-mart yesterday.

I'm moving some of the plots so I can keep a few acres of turnips/radishes in for the late season hunting, but I think I'm going back to a few acres of sorghum this year, too, in case we get that late winter turkey season.

Hoping to get something done after April 15th....Until then, I just don't have the time. Likely going to be clover.
Weather has been weird this year, but did notice the grass in my yard beginning to green up today.

That clover plot from March looks GREAT! I limed and fertilized it heavy and it's thick, green and lush, with plenty of the chicory growing in it too. In the evenings I've been watching deer pour out of the woods and head to the center of the field to that plot to feed, a dozen out here last night.
Killed the grass/weeds and tilled up another couple acres for fall turnip plots. Some of it was old CRP ground that hadn't been turned in 20 years, going to need to work that over a few times between now and the end of summer. If we have another brutal winter I'm going to be ready with plenty of food for 'em!

FINALLY got two days in a row of rain, first time that's happened here since late May. On my second planting of the sorghum, it's been so dry here, and some of the seed layed for weeks and is just now getting the moisture to come up. Clover looking good, other than the dryness and extreme deer pressure (dozen or two dozen deer hammering it every night). Be time soon to start getting the fall plots in!

Do you have a lot of luck with sorghum for deer? If not, what are you planting it for?

Oh yeah, they love it. Plus it's one of the few things I can grow well in my salty, clay soil. Beans and corn don't do a thing here for me, although clovers and turnips do well. Normally eaten by December though, at least my few acres.
Hoping some of it may last for the new late winter turkey season.
