Hit Dorchester this AM and Anne Arundel this PM. Still think the peak is in the future. Finally got a shooter on his feet during legal in one of my trailcams. I agree. Peak is still to come. Hoping for a good day on youth day.

I do not think that the peak is here. I saw 16 deer yesterday and two very small bucks. The one buck was chasing a doe, which I shot cause they kept running circles around me. It was a great time in the woods yesterday and I wish I could have gotten just one more doe..... Have not seen any nice bucks this year. My friend has seen a few Boonies but they are hanging back just outside of shooting range. They come in to check things out and then turn and go back the way they came (wind being perfect). I am taking a kid out this saturday and hope to see some action. Good luck to all!

I had a decent buck, a 2 year old 9 point I've been watching, bedded 40 yards from the house this morning, He was in a strip of marsh barely 20 feet wide between the yard and cove, with a doe. They spooked up when they heard me and the dogs outside, he was crashing through brush after the doe and grunting up a storm as them moved off through the thickets.
I've seen such behaviour lots of times, they herd a hot doe into the marsh for breeding to stay away from other deer. I don't know about peak, but he was surely locked onto her!
Weather for this weekend doesn't look great. Warming up into the 60's, some rain on Sunday. Hopefully they still move for the kiddies. Good luck to everyone for the youth weekend, I've got a kid coming for Saturdy afternoon!

Good luck with your dad and boys Andy!! I haven't been seeing much activity... even at night the past couple nights where I normally see a ton of deer moving around. Saturday when my buddy got his first one we didn't even see anything except for the one he got. Hopefully it picks up this weekend!

Saw a 8 pt at a dead run leap the guardrail on Rt231 this evening and land about 2 feet in front of a car going 50 mph! Grill and headlights everywhere!
Car came to a dead stop on shoulder and buck slide another 100 feet, right down centerline!
Saw a BIG buck midday, out in the open, in the wind.

They're moving this morning!! Saw two bucks from the kitchen window, both cruising across the fields and food plots searching for does.

peak is here but should even get a little better: did all day sit Monday and saw 2 shooters over 15 does and 5 other small bucks, Today over 30 does 6 bucks but only one shooter. got two shooters on cam during daylight this past week. Both days bucks were chasing and grunting but not real hard. Bucks today were all by themselves searching. Most does still had white hocks. Both days the same shooter has been lucky, in range but no clear shots. Back at it tomorrow than on to those geese.

So what's the latest? I haven't seen much at all out moving, but Sunday when it was warm and humid every patch of woods I drove by I could smell the buck stank just rolling out of the thickets. Was at a BP shoot and one of the woods walk stations must have had a fresh scrape on the other side of the brush, overwhelming odor!

Monday I went to get the kids capes and antlers from the butcher shop I use and had the biggest 4 point I have ever seen cross by my house. His genetics were bad obviously cause he was a BIG bodied giant fork horn with no brows. He eased across the street in front of me and Dylan. I pulled up and rolled the window down to check him out.. BIG MISTAKE. he stunk with RUT so bad I almost heaved.. It was strong as I have ever smelled. I assume that is good for St Marys Co.. Probably won't deer hunt again till gun season..

I just got back from a rifle hunt in VA. No rut there yet. I did see a lot of dead deer in Charles County on the roads so hopefully it's finally kicked in.
FYI: .257 weatherby on a deer at 75 yds = lots of meat loss when you hit them on the shoulder.

Crickets. Keep waiting for it to get here and haven't seen much activity whatsoever. I work on a Federal property where there are a ton of deer, but I've seen little activity. Must be a trickle rut.
