Had one hunter ask about 3 stands and a trail cam that was gone . Saw him again Sat. and he said he hung some more, didn't say how many ! Just asking is this how you home sted a place on the marsh ?

Was out there Friday (near where you shot your 6pt last year) and only heard a few bugles in the morning. Was on my lease on Friday afternoon and I had multiple stags bugling away. I passed on two 4pts on Saturday morning. As for the hunter hanging stands, I think that is bullshit. One, it is illegal, two, it causes conflict b/c someone is "marking" a spot, three, it is an unfair advantage if I have to drag my climber in every day and someone just leaves theirs out there. I believe public should be one thing, first come first serve. If you want a spot, get there earlier than me. If you do, I will respect that and move on. I have no problems with trailcams, but that is asking for trouble if someone finds them.

If I see a stand twice on state land I carry it out just like cans, trail tape or any other trash someone leaves behind, because at that point that's exactly what it is. Illegal to leave stands on state ground overnight. If it keeps up or you find bait, also illegal, stop in LeCompte office and tell them where it is, they'll take care of it. Of course it may have been DNR that removed his first set of stands, if so he can get them back if he pays the fine!
Blackwater allows it, but why would you want to advertise where you're hunting?!
I was going to head to BW on Saturday, but wind was wrong for where I wanted to go. I'm not too worried about getting after them until after October 1. I always found that earlier than that they were there, but not doing much. After October 1 it seems like somebody flips the switch, they start carrying on and the trails turn into muddy cattle paths from all the movement.

There aren't many secrets among guys that hunt public lands hard! The pressure on sika has really picked up the last 5-10 years, amazing how many people can be down at Fishing Bay parking lots on weekends, especially around early MZ.
It's almost getting that the best time to bowhunt them is in November. A lot get shot in October, but by November most guys have had their fill and moved on to the whitetail rut. Much less pressure and people in November. I'd hunt more then, but the whitetails get me, too.

For the record I was duck hunting out there. I try and stay out of there for deer. Like Osprey said very few plaves are a secret anymore.

I just didn't want you or anyone else thinking that I was trying to move in on someone's spot. When I scout for sika on public I usually look for signs of other hunters before I look for sika sign. If I see other hunters I look for another spot.

One thing for sure, they aren't going to do much in this hot weather, at least not during the day! Better be out there next week when the cool front goes by and the temps drop a bit, it should be on!!

Has anyone been out in the last few days ? Guess I 'm getting old or lazy ,knowing they love this weather ( well at the beach they do ) last time I've been out was Sat. I know two hunters that have gone every day and they said the sika have been off the wall .One said he lost a small stage ,rain washed the blood trail out . Sucks but it happens .

I was going to go down this morning, but woke up to thunder and heavy rain so I rolled back over in bed. I'll be close to them tomorrow, but going for something smaller with wings.

Is the water around there high or have the winds blown it all away? I don't want to get stuck...........

NE winds have had it pushed up in most of the marshes a good bit Frank. Supposed to stay NE through early next week, so you'll have plenty of water! It takes a hard NW to blow it all out and get you stuck on a mudflat.

Thanks. I couldn't remember if it was NE or NW that messed me up last time. I almost spent the night & I wasn't looking forward to it.
