Well, I've joined the dark side, got my first crossbow today. Barnett Jackal, something new to play with this season, didn't want to dump a grand into one of the really fancy setups until I decide if I like it. Still planning on using my compound most of the time, but I have a few setups and scenarios where it could be a very good tool, mainly ground setups where there's no trees. Gonna shoot it and sight it in tomorrow.

Joined the darkside.... LOL! There are so many different opinions about crossbows I guess. I would love to have on so my 7yr old can shoot and kill a deer. he is not stron enough to meet the requirements for a compound yet. Honestly though, its the only reason why I want one. I'll use a compound as long as I can draw it back! Good luck using it in your specific scenarios! I'd love to see your setups!!

I have the same bow. Yet to kill anything with it. Need to get s few more bolts. I bought it for the boys and they enjoy shooting it. I def need to get out there more and get them some trigger time. They are pretty fun to shoot..

How is your's holding up Fox? I'm pissed. 8 shots through a brand new crossbow and the cables on mine are cutting in half where it goes through the riser. Already 4 strands broke in half.

My dad has the same problem with his crossbow Osprey. Not sure the model, but it doesn't take him long to need a new string.

When I checked the local shop and they told me it would be $75 to replace the cables and string, I started boxing it back up to send back to Cabelas. It looks like the there's a seam on the injection molding of the plastic on the riser where the cables fit, the sharp edge is probably what's cutting the cables. I ain't going to have something designed that poorly, guess I'll stick with my compound.

Osprey sorry to hear about your crossbow problems. I shoot a 10 point crossbow and have never had any problems. 10 point makes the Wicked Ridge line of crossbows and they are very well priced and top of the line quality. I have a few buddies who shoot them and they are great crossbows. Check out the website if your still interested in shooting a crossbow this year.

I'm shooting a Bowtech Stryker. They had a problem with the limbs when they first came out. Once they fixed them, they have been getting great reviews. I like mine a lot. the Bowtech 350 is a fairly inexpensive and quite crossbow.

Trying again this season, just got the Barnett Raptor. Looked at a lot of them in shops this time, for the price this one looks good and I really like how light and narrow it is. I liked the Excalibur recurve limb crossbows too, but at half the price I'll try this one. Hard to justify an expensive crossbow in the kayak and around the salt water for sika hunting.

The boys used my Jackal last year to each kill a whitetail. Haven't had the chance to get them out much this year. Muzzle loader looks to be the best chance I will have to get them in the woods as they are off of school that Friday. But if the time works out I have no problem letting them shoot a deer with the crossbow. Very good tool to use until they can get confident with a compound.

So far I like this new one. I took it sika hunting yesterday, didn't get a shot but very easy to carry and it's narrow enough I cocked it up in the climbing stand, with it inside the shooting rail!
