Was over to the marsh yesterday and it was just TOO hot do do much walking . But what walking I did do I saw a lot more trees DEAD . I know last year the one was in great shape because I got a 6 out of it , DEAD . Does anyone KNOW if this is from the spraying of the frag , high water or beetles ? Saw a few with holes some without .

The pines are slowly dying off all over down there. Combination of tides, droughts and saltwater intrusion weakening them, then pine bark beetles finishing them off. I watch it every year. First year they start to look weak, with some browning of that year's needles, then the next year they're dead. The difference is startling over 10 or more years when you hunt the same spots.
The area around Lev's ditch is going really fast, five years ago that was still a healthy pine woods. The island out past the abandoned excavator was a big pine island full of prime trees then, but almost all dead now.
Was just an article in the Star today about land loss/sea level rise around Blackwater, experts expect most of it to be gone in 50 years...

"The ditch is where I was" Why do you think I mentioned it? The Osprey sees all...

Hmmmmmmmmmmm - Spying on people's secret spots?? ;D
When I go over there, I'm going to be dropped off so nobody can see my truck parked. Maybe I'll take a taxi in. ;D ;D
I've only been going over there for under 10 years and I have definitely noticed that some trees that I've hunted in before would scare the living daylights out of me to try to climb now. 50 years really isn't that long of a time for all of that area to disappear into the marsh.

I've got spies all over the place. I've seen a huge difference since Isabel. Even on my place it's happening. Losing part of one low pine woods, trees here and there starting to cook off, tides much worse than when I was a kid. Won't be long till I'll be looking to sell and head to higher ground. I hear Iowa is far from saltwater...
