All I can say is I couldn't be happier with the outcome of youth day. I had two kids lined up but one dropped out and I was able to help my 7th grade student tag out for the season! This first picture was a great story! We had several birds deep in the woods towards public land. There was a strip of private land (No permission to hunt) that seperated us so we walked in after them once they sounded like they were going further. We got to the private piece of land and I made several yelps. They sounded off and were close! We sat down and got the decoys out. We had three different birds with hens that skirted us on the ridge. Once they made their way off we got up and ran back to the field to circle around them. Set up, made a few calls, and had one bird come into the corner of the field. He was 52 yds (measured after the shot) and would not come to the decoys. He looked as if he was going to walk away and I told Devon to shoot! IT DROPPED!! This was his first bird!

On Sunday we went back to the same property and had birds all around us! We decided to set up on the other side of the finger of woods as there were more birds in that direction. This time I had my Avian X Full strut with me and we set it out with a hen to give it a try. By 7:15 I made 5 soft yelps and he sounded off at 70 yds. Next thing you know he popped up over the top of the field. He was in full strut and walked DIRECTLY to the decoys. This bird didn't play around! Before he got to the decoys I putted to bring him out of full strut and BOOM! Down he went! I got this one on video but photobucket isn't downloading it so i might not be able to get it on the site!

Way to go Brett.. We hunted hard for 2 days I had some real troopers with me. We just could not get the birds to cooperate.. Seemed they were henned up tight and not looking for love. hopefully get my boys back out before my surgery. But with pending travel for work it is going to be tough.. Hoping this Thursday the birds are a little more apt to come investigate those lonely hens yelps..

Awesome video Brett! Congratulations to you both! We has some success as well.....Saturday after hearing no gobbles all morning we had an absolute brute of a turkey come into our setup just 10 feet from the blind we were in at 8AM. Instantly gave all 3 of us turkey fever! Unfortunately we had a deer just below us snorting and the turkey came in directly behind the blind. The bird spotted the decoys but acted very nervous and slowly walked off not giving us the time we needed to get Eric turned around the other direction before he disappeared. Not hunting turkey out of a pop up blind ever again! Baseball was next and consumed the rest of our day. Sunday we were back at it on a property my brother had set up for us that was holding some birds. We set up in a natural ground blind on the field edge and set up my dad's stuffed struttung jake that he mounted just for turkey hunting and a hen decoy. At first light we heard multiple gobblers sounding off in the distance and continued to listen to them work deep in the woods. We heard one that was a little closer that seemed like he was looking for love. I began to call to him and he was responding well. He slowly made his way up through the woods and was closing the distance. The last call i made he was very close but still in the cover. I told Eric to get ready and here he came. The turkey bolted out of the woods running directly towards the decoys in full strut. He positioned hisself in between the two decoys and faces the jake and jumps up to attack and Eric smoked him out of mid-air right before he struck the decoy! I give him credit, for a 10 year old boy he is as cool and calm under pressure every time he is put in situations like this. What a great morning and couldn't be happier and more proud!
