It's getting closer, anybody getting the itch?
Starting to see a few birds moving around and hearing the occasional gobble on calm mornings down this way.
New calls or tactics or anything this spring for anybody??

Seen a few birds. nothing to get excited about. My kids get a kick out of going out on the deck and hitting the owl call to see if we can get one to gobble.. Nothing yet..

Heard three toms gobbling today at my work here in SMD and they sounded fired up. Lots of birds on the site I work at.

I've been trying to do that every morning, but my damn rooster won't shut up! Every time I hit the owl hooter he clucks and crows his fool head off at it. Doubt I could hear a gobble over him if it was just across the hedgerow.

I can't wait to get my son out for youth day. Been seeing and hearing alot of turkeys down this way. Biggest thing I am trying to improve is getting my decoys set the instant i get a response. It seemed last year after getting a gobble following my calling the turkeys moved to my position so fast i was unprepared when they showed up. Gonna take my mistakes from last year, improve them and hopefully fool a few big long beards this spring.

Supposed to get into the 70's mid next week, that should really get the birds cranking. The one warm day last week I had gobblers in the field, but all the cold days since they've disappeared again.

Been looking around the past two days and birds seem mixed up. In one field there will be a flock of 30-40 still grouped up, but a mile down the road there will be one longbeard all alone just hanging out. Cool weather seems to have them confused a bit yet!

Went out today and was at my property in PG county, got set up where I heard birds before on the roost and as soon as the sun started peeking over the horizon I have three toms sounding off on the roost. I quietly get up and leave and check another part of the property later that morning and call get two more toms to sound off on the ground along with some yelps from a hen. Get out of there quietly and I'm feeling good for youth day next weekend. Going to check my Chuck county property tomorrow morning and see what the birds are doing there.

My blood is boiling after reading these posts about turkey hunting. I am not sure when I will come to grips with this fact however I may like turkey hunting a little more than deer hunting!!!!! Osprey, New gear and tactics- I jut got the new Avian X full strut decoy and it is freaking amazing! I will have two hens, the full strut, and the 1/4 strut jake in my arsenal. Bought a couple new mouth calls and the new flextone thunde series calls (NOT IMPRESSED) but that is it for the calls. I have Privat/public spot set for Saturday youth and two private spots for Sunday's youth. I have two excited kids ready to go not to mention my son who is going to tag along for the first time! J-bird- I am not sur what decoys you have but I recommend, if I may, the avian x-decoys. I keep them blown up and in the bag. As soon as I hear the first gobble when walking through the wood I cn get them out and set up (2) in about 45seconds. hey are lifelike, quick and easy! I am dying to hear a gobble. I have not had time to get out and scout and probably wont this week..... Super busy! I hope to hear something on opening day for youth though!!! Good luck to all!

Went out to my Chuck county property today and didn't take long to figure out the birds are there and ready to go. Parked my truck and walked 200 yards into the woods towards a well known roosting area and had three toms gobbling like crazy on the roost. Quietly got out of there and can't wait for next weekends youth hunt.

Brett, that sounds a bit like my spread. Different makes, but I've got the B Mobile full strutter, 2 hens and a jake. Don't always use them all, but at home or somewhere easy to reach it's not too bad to carry and works well. I've got a cool little slate trough call that's new this year, a new small box that sounds good and a wingbone yelper I just made. It's my Headless Hen yelper, came from the wing of a hen I found dead in the yard, an eagle had decapitated her! I read somewhere that hen wing bones make a higher pitched yelp, thought I'd give it a go. Of course I've got a new gun too. Patterned her a few days ago, 80gr FF, 1 3/8 oz #6 lead, she's good to 25 yards. Pulling out mid-week and heading to IOWA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I scouted twice last week and hit four seperate public tracts in Worcester, each property was holding multiple gobblers. Weather permitting, I think it will be a great year!
Only new gear this year will be an Avian X breeding hen.
