Just sent my applications in yesterday, looks like I should be headed to Iowa in early April for the first segment of their turkey season! From the results of the past five years should be no issue getting the tag, so I'm already getting excited. Can't wait to see the midwest in the spring with things turning green, too. ;D

So how big are these things?

They'd make Big Fox look like a Little Mole! Actually just a bit bigger than ours, 25lbs is pretty common out there but a few get bigger. Same Eastern subspecies as here, just heavier with all the food and good soils.

Talked to my buddy out there today, he says it shouldn't be any problem getting on birds, he's seeing plenty. It may even work out right that I'm coming back across western MD just on our opening day. Haven't hunted Garret County in years, but I'd love to get out for a morning up there in the mountains and I do believe it'll happen.

Damn, I think I've run into the worst four day stretch of weather possible for turkey hunting. First two days cold, windy, drizzle and cloudy. Heard a few gobbles each AM, all off the farm I can hunt and way down in the bottoms. Nothing but hens seen for me. And today is really special - more wind, heavy rain, 42 degrees, thunder, lightning and hail. Sure, what's a turkey hunt without hail?! Now flood warnings, too. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm looking forward to Maryland, warm weather and mosquitoes.

Good luck - stinks to go that far & have those conditions.
I'll be out in the morning here - 60 degrees & sunny. ;D

Osprey that sucks and I had the same type of weather last year for the Ohio youth hunt I participated in. Sure makes for tough turkey hunting and hope the weather turns better for you.

Wow, it got epic out in Iowa. By the time I left today there were flash flood warnings everywhere. Every little creek and ditch I've drove past today is over it's banks and all sorts of places are flooded. Some roads have been closed from the flooding and the big rivers are simply impressive. My buddy made me leave - he wanted me out of there before the plague of locusts showed up next! Oh well, maybe next trip.
