Can someone tell me the guidelines for scoring a sika stag? I can score whitetail, but I used the same method and came up with a score I know is to high.
I see Doug W. says "The MD contest basically uses the Boone and Crockett Scoring System for whitetails and is slightly modified for sika deer."
Does anyone know how it is "slightly modified for sika deer"?
Buddy killed a monster this past weekend and we'd like to know a green score. It weighed 85lbs without guts and has some looooooong hooks.
Thanks.

Not sure what you would need to change. What score are you getting?

Main beam length, greatest width between main beams, tine lengths, 3 circumferences on each side. Deduct differences side to side.

Main beam length, greatest width between main beams, tine lengths, 3 circumferences on each side. Deduct differences side to side. Thats what I did. Here are the measurements. Inside Width = 13.00 Left Main = 14.500 Right Main = 14.625 L G1 = 5.625 R G1 = 6.000 L G2 = 4.625 R G2 = 2.875 I only did 2 Mass measurements L H1 = 4.625 R H1 = 3.750 L H2 = 2.750 R H2 = 2.750 That gives me 75" as gross and 72" net with 3.125 deductions. I used 1/8ths, but converted them for the "rack score" app on my phone. works great on whitetails, but that seems high for this deer... and i missed a mass measurement it sounds like. idk

Your question was guidelines for scoring a stag, already answered. Post a pic! That's a damn good stag if those are the measurements, I think the state record gun kill is 78". Check www.marylandtrophydeer.com if you want to see the state record listings.

That's a nice stag and a I can't see where you would have made an error, but on face I'd say that stag scores 68-70. I've seen 75" and he just doesn't look like it to me. Either way 14"+ mainbeams is an absolute stud. Tell use the story on this big boy.

I have to agree with Bart, but it's also hard to tell from pics, especially just one angle and at dusk. I would definitely take it to the MD trophy deer contest for an official score though!
I think the slight modifications you're asking about are minor detail stuff, things like the first tines not being considered brow tines, etc. You've got all the basic measurements you need, espcecially for a rough green score. Tell your buddy congrats, that's a great one!!
