Seven guys from southern Maryland decided to make a trip to Wyoming for mule deer and antelope. Since I had a Boone & Crocket antelope I elected to target a good muley. Andyfox11 and I were the only ones after muleys only.
After a god awful climb into the mountains of Wyoming, this is the view we were greeted with.
You can't see them in this pic there is a herd of elk on the opposite mountain from us. Shortly after splitting up Andy is within 15 yds of two bull elk.
About 1 hr into our hunt, I've got deer located and have a decision to make. I locate a herd of deer and one is an ok 3 x 2 buck.
A tough decision but I decide to let him walk.
The end of day one ends in a long, long walk back but this is the view we had.
Back up on the mountain the next day we can only locate does. There are 6 in this pic.
The rest of the day was uneventful. We met the Game Warden and he was the nicest guy you could meet and thanked us for coming to Wyoming. He also said that the fires last summer had definately affected the hunting.
Wednesday found us in another area.
It wasn't long before Andy spotted deer. There were 2 bucks feeding on a hillside about 1000 yds away. One was a decent buck. Andy decided that he was good enough. We made a stalk up the backside of the hill. I got a good range on him and Andy put him down at about 500yds.
After the picture taking and congratulations we were off to find more deer.
At about 30 min before shooting time ended, Andy shouted "Holy S### Monster!" And then it was on, he had spotted a buck bedded in the rocks. We made a stalk up behind a rock and Andy is saying shoot him and I still can't see him. The buck makes a break for it out of the rocks. At about 150 yds, I hit him with the .270 and down he went.
I didn't get any field photos because of the time and we needed to get him out but I couldn't be happier.
He measures 23" inside and is a 4 x 3.
The others all got their antelope. It was a great time had by all.
