Anybody putting anything in this fall? Got 100lb of rape/turnips coming in that I hope to get planted this weekend. Then I will be doing rain dances hoping for germination. ;D

Frank, I put in two 2 weeks ago and 2 this past weekend. Caught the rain just right on both. The first set were pretty difficult as they were an 8 hour day with the roto tiller and a rake. Put in some oats and clover, and rape and brassicas. Hope they will pay off once the beans turn.

I tilled up and replanted a bunch of spots that didn't do anything this summer from the drought. Millet in a few acres, wheat/radish/clover mix in an acre. Got 4/10's inch of rain Saturday morning, hope that's enough to get them going. Got one more spot of 2 acres I'm going to put in turnips and oats, waiting another week or two for that.
Lack of rains are just killing me. Every storm goes around or up the other side of the river this year, never had it so dry here on my place.

Rain is really getting me too. I watch the storms form in the afternoons & then when they come over the mountains they either split right over top of me or completely dissappear.

Frank, how much acreage are you planting? 100 pounds of seed?! Turnip rates are only 3-6lbs an acre, you must have a LOT of open ground.

;D About 15 acres.
It's an old farm, so the fields were already cleared.

That's fine with me....
Really it isn't that much. Where it is there are no other beans or corn for them to eat, so if we don't plant that much, they eat it all before it comes up.

How are yours looking? Mine is gorgeous, lush and green, the rains hit perfect! The only patch like it for miles around, too, can't wait to see what I draw in November.

Looking pretty good - I missed by about a week (too late), otherwise they'd be a little further along by now.
Definately looking pretty good though & the rain we just got was just in time. ;D

Ours is sure doing better than the sunflowers did, what the deer didn`t eat the drought got. We planted Imperial Whitetail oats, forage radishes ,turnips and wheat and they look great. I`ll probably hit it with fertilizer this weekend. The clover patches are doing well too.

Sunflowers huh? Only way to even think of those around my area is to put an electric fence around them, deer won't let them get over 3" tall!
My Clover is coming back good now that it's cooler, too, but the grass needs cutting every other week to keep it knocked back. Still got one 1/4 acre left to plant, but saving that for a late wheat patch.

I tried some of those Rack Radishes in one mix, dang things are 3-4' tall and in flower already! Sat on the roof and glassed the field last evening to see what the deer are doing, they all came to that plot but I couldn't tell from that far off which plants they were eating.
