Tag came in the mail today. Harpoons are rigged, snatch hooks sharpened, trailer lights actually work for first time in a decade, and most importantly, according to wife, life insurance paid up.
Ran into a young lady Saturday who his heading to Florida soon after one. Course, she's trapped bears before, so a gator don't stand a chance w/ her!

"So my buddy Bubba invited me gator hunting..." Nalley, there's either one heck of a story or a great Jeff Foxworthy joke in there somewhere. ")

Good Lord! Explain how this is done... and no I have not really watched swamp people enough to get the jist! This guy was snagged and brought closer to the boat and then harpooned incase of a straightened hook. Then he got a wack in the noggin with a bangstick.

Damn nalley, thanks for raising the bar so high! Now, I can't post pics of mine! We did SEE some monsters and MOMENTARILY had a line on a 10' footer! All that came to mind was the scene from Jaws: "I think we need a bigger boat!" Being out on the ICW in a jon boat, with a 15" transom, was "interesting" to say the least. Esp. when we lost the lights at about 0100, MILES from the ramp!

Finally got a few pics uploaded: Tools of the trade. 12/0 snatch hooks on rod & reel 14/0 snatch hook on float Harpoon with 50' line and float. Note beaver snare on snout, BEFORE we wrapped w/ elec. tape Back on shore, after 158gr to brain,(its, not mine) and knife to spinal cord For reference, I'm 8' 7 and 475 lbs ;D It was 7'1", but missing the end of its tail. I tell folks it was missing the last 3 feet, but probably only 5-6 inches. ;D Saw lots, missed some chances on 9-11'ers, came THIS close to boating a 10', had an unseen 8-9' launch itself from the bank about 5 feet away, and we could FEEL it drag under the hull, and about launched my brother, harpoon in hand, on top a 8-9' that was high and dry on a mud bar. Problem was, we hit the same mudbar at WOT and came to a dead stop. Great trip, and can't WAIT to go again. But will drag a bigger boat behind me next time!

Dave, That is without a doubt too dam cool. I am jealous. ;D However, one thing: Note beaver snare on snout, BEFORE we wrapped w/ elec. tape We need to talk about decent snare locks......or better yet, let me build you a few for next time. One of the guys who worked in the fur house when I was a boy had lived is S. Florida as a swamper/night hunter till he made Florida too hot for him. I heard all about different techniques from somebody who had been there and done it. Then he came up here, started using chicken wire and shelled corn and almost made the Eastern Shore too hot to hold him before he got religion....so-to-speak....

LOL, wonder if he was related to the guy that got creative over this side w/ "uniquely deployed" gill nets and corn. He got religion too, and Doug W. was the preacher!
Funny story: you can see the yellow handle in one pic of my old Penn 309. I've been using it since the '70s, so I'm pretty familiar with it. Yet when I cast at a 10'er, I COMPLETEY forgot what I was doing, busy staring at the gator, and my thumb never touched the spool. Talk about a birds nest! 80# braided, at that!
