Talked to my cousin last night and he was out doing some scouting for youth day for my boy. Has an area picked out where he has been seeing and hearing a real nice bird lately and he said when he got down near that area he instantly heard the gobbler sounding off like crazy. Said the gobbler sounded really worked up and has him super excited for saturday.. Made my heart pump just thinking of getting my son out there on his first official hunt this weekend. I cannot wait..

not trying to jack your thread but one of the best days i ever had in the woods was when my boy scored his bird at age 8 it had 11 inch beard and 1 and 1/8 inch spurs , now at that point my biggest bird only had a 3 inch beard lol, but anyway i hope he slams the monster and you get to feel what i did , its the best fealing in the world , good luck to you and your boy this sat.

I'm taking my little buddy out on Saturday, but we've got a treat this year. His Dad is coming over, spending the night in camp with us and going on his first turkey hunt for youth day. Pretty cool that I've been taking the boy for four years and now he's got his old man interested, it's going to be a really cool morning in the woods. Good luck to everyone!

Just checked the weather, showers with 10-15 NW winds. I hate when that hits on youth day!?!?

ok so its quite so im thinking everyone had the same result we did with my boys today . we got into the woods at 545 dad and joey went to the top of the woods me and dustin hunted the riverbottom on the edge of a grass field , on the way in we could here other hunters calling in the dark one we could see on the other side of the river still had a light on when he was calling lol , at daybreak the woods came to life with birds gobblin within 100 yards from our location, as the wind picked up the birds stoped gobblin and we sat until 930 without seing a bird,,, now dad and joey had 2 nice birds roosted about 30 yards from there location and they watched the birds gobble from the roost until about 630 am then they flew down in the oppisite direction about 70 yrds from their position and headed straight out into the cattle pasture never to be seen again lol, well thats my storie for today hope yall have better ones to share

We heard one bird WAY off at first light, and then nothing until about 0745. Had one gobbling steady and started to work towards him. He was still 3-400 hundred yards farther, when we walked smack into a hen, who took off running to our left. We stopped and yelped and the first gobbler, still 3-400 yds away cut loose, and so did one MUCH closer. Must have been with the hen we bumped. He'd answer us every time, but she was steady pulling him away.
Started back towards the other one, but he had clammed up.We were about a mile from the truck, and about half way back, maybe 0830, we had a pileated woodpecker cut loose and fly across in front of us. INTSANT gobble within 100 yds!
We dropped and set up, and as soon as I started calling, heard excited cackling and yelping close. Wound up pulling a PO'd hen from him! She came straight in, raising all kinds of racket, until she was about 25 yds straight out, and realized something wasn't right. She hung around a bit, and we rally worked her up, but the tom never showed.
All in all, a good morning!
Did hear two shots, so hopefully, a couple happy kids out there. And looks like another GREAT year for ticks!
