CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! When did you get him? If he is a trophy to you, then he is a wallhanger! It is all what you think. NICE Buck. What county did you get him in? That will be the first entry for November's buck of the month!!!

Do it, that's a nice buck. It'll be months before he's done anyway, just sock a bit of cash away each week and you'll have it covered by the time the mount is done. Tell the taxidermist you don't want it until next spring/summer and you'll have plenty of time. That's the bugger, you've only got one chance to get it mounted!
Don't let it sit in the freezer too long, more than a year and it can sometimes ruin the hide. Is it completely caped out or still on the skull?

Congrats on the buck, I'll put him up on the sight soon.
Hey brettgerhart, I know of a great Taxidermist only 30 min from you that does a great job. His basement is full of mounts he has done so that you can see the quality of his work. I just got back a nice mount from last year and it looks awesome...
Good mounts take some time (8-10 months) so what I do is keep a money jar in my bedroom and just save up all my spare change..it really adds up.
You would be looking around $400. Well worth a beautiful trophy.

Congratulations, most people spend a couple of years or even longer before they get a really nice buck with a bow. All of my mounts were taken with a gun. I've been bow hunting for years and have had my share of big ones close by, not in range. The biggest buck I've ever seen in my hunting I had at the base of my tree. Problem, he knew I was up that tree. We played the head bob game the stomp and bob game etc. I had to stand up in stages through out his games, I had to draw in stages, not easy. I remember he turned to walk away and I started to draw and he turned right around at half draw and I froze. Both my arms were shaking from trying not to move and hold compound at half draw. I am only sharing this with you to put perspective to your accomplishment and your question about should I get him mounted. Only you can make that decision. My first buck with my bow was a really nice 6 point with 20 inch inside spread and a broken brow tine. I didn't have the money mount it either so I put rake on a plake mount. However, if it looked like yours it would've been in the freezer until I got the money. Good job and what ever decision you make will be the right one for you.

I'm gonna do it! I am saving for a down deposit then my guy said I didn't have to pay the rest until it is finished. I do not have it caped yet but the hide is with the head. I'll have it to the taxidermist by the end of this week. Thanks guys! Good to hear the encouragement from you. I now have hard evidence to give to my wife. Good thing you can't find your addresses on this sight.....

I would mount it also. You only have one shot at it and it is a nice buck. I would be proud to have that on my wall if it were mine.

Its not about price its about quality. Look at the work that he has done before and then decide. The more expensive guy sometimes does a worse job than the cheaper guy. And vice-versa. I have seen some mounts that were done inexpensively and the quality of work reflected that. Remember your the one thats gonna look at the mount the rest of your life.
