Anyone taking out a young one on the 12th? I am taking one of my students. He has never been turkey hunting but loves deer hunting. I am really excited to try and call one in for him.

Brett, I think your students are very lucky to have you. Spending time outside school with them doing something you love and setting an example for your student maybe later on to take someone under his or her wing....

Now, now, I've tried to put you on both Big Fox. Some things even a professional outdoorsman like myself can't overcome - and your bad juju mojo is the peak of it!!

Thanks! I love teaching about hunting and fishing 10 times more than Physical education and health. Wish I had more time to do it!

Time for success stories! ;D Took my buddy out to a public spot I've been listening to birds the past two mornings today for youth day. Warm and windy, we were there very early but never heard a gobble off the roost. Sat where I'd been hearing them, decoys out and calling, until 7, then started hiking back to the Jeep to try another spot. Not 200 yards from the truck we heard a gobble, pretty close, in the middle of an old pine clearcut regrowth. Worked into the small pines aways, set down, no decoys 'cause it was so thick, and started calling. Bird gobble at every cluck and yelp, and he was coming. Within 10 minutes he was coming into view, still gobbling at 20 yards, a fired up jake, and Logan greeted him with a big Bang and he went flop. I dearly love the bang-flop!! ;D ;D Just turned 12 this week and it's his second bird already. I think I'm spoiling the boy.

That is very cool! Had no luck this morning. Heard nothing gobble in the roosts. Geese flew into swamp and made one or two gobble. Sat there and made a few calls and only got one answer. Called the second time and heard an eagle. Once I heard him I did not hear turkeys. The turkey sounded like he was across the swamp. Sat there for an hour and heard and saw nothing. We got up and started moving but I could not get anything to answer. It was kind of a bummer but I think the kid I took would like to go again.

took my fiances cousin out this mornin at 630 heard them gobbling on the roost set up put the decoy out and made a couple of soft yelps no answer. 5 minutes later i looked up on the hill and saw the bird making his way down with two more behind him. the three started fighting on top of the hill and eventually went off the backside. and soon as they went out of sight a red fox came cruising into the decoys adn the turkeys started clucking at him i thought for sure it was over. the fox eventually cleared but the turkeys continued to cluck. i started a couple of soft purrs and he gobbled to it i kept it coming and he kept closing the distance. he came into about 12 yards and they boy i was with had the gun on him i know three times i told him to shoot after the third time he told me he couldnt because he couldnt turn the safety off i reached around and turned it off for him with the turkey standing right in front of us. once the safety was off he got the turkey in the scope and rolled him im gonna post some pics later.
