I too am sorry to hear the news of another hunters tree stand accident. I had a friend last year, for some reason the bottom section of his stand did not bite into the tree very far and when he stood up, down he went. Broke one leg , dislocated a knee and banged up his hip. He didn't have a safety harness on nor did he have the two sections(platform and seat) connected to each other. I tell him very time I see him how luck he was. I am one who wears a safety harness every time I'm in the tree and if i forget to strap in first thing, I feel uncomfortable. I use a Hunter safety system vest and love it. It only takes a few seconds to strap in and save yourself from a fall, as well as all kinds of pain to your family and friends. If you are lucky enough to have kids think of how they would feel going through life without you. That alone will remind you to strap yourself in.

Very sorry to hear about your dad,s friend! I,m guilty of not wearing a safety harness! I read in 1 of my hunting magazines that at least 400 people die or are critically injured every year falling from deer stands ,pretty scary!! I once fell putting up screw in steps/ did not have 7th step in enough. I was lucky enough to escape with scrapes and bruises. I NEED TO START PRACTICING SAFETY! WE ALL NEED TOO!!!!
