Bowfishing for snakeheads has now been made legal. Yes, you can now take snakeheads using a bow and arrow; you must still immediately kill and report all snakeheads that you take. See regulations on the our Web site: What's new section down under Nongame Fish, www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing/regulations/new.asp Quotes taken from appropriate sections are as follows: Bow and arrow fishing has been amended to include only common carp, and not grass carp, add northern snakehead along with common carp and gar. Crossbows are now allowed (see "Nongame"). Bow and Arrow may be used to take common carp, northern snakehead, and gar (fishing license required) during day and night hours (24 hours), except from waters stocked with trout. Spearguns and poisoned arrows are prohibited. Snakehead must be immediately killed and reported to VDGIF. Anglers may legally possess snakehead fish taken from Virginia waters provided they immediately kill the fish and notify VDGIF (see office locator or call 1-800-770-4951). See identification information.)
