So did anyone find a shed this past weekend? I managed to find two but neither are worthy of pictures. Both sheds were from last year so they were a little chewed up and faded to white. One was a spike and the other was the right side of a small six point. The six point was found in a field and the spike in a bedding area.
Even though the big horns alluded me, I did managed to find plenty of turkey scratchings and spoked 6 or seven of them while walking along. I too was up early listening for the possible gobble but didn't hear anything.
Instead of an old Tom, I heard some geese down in the "puddle" which is courtesy of our friendly beaver. I went back to check them out and they were making plenty of racket! More importantly though, I saw the first pair of wood ducks that I've ever seen there. We've always thought they were around but could never confirm until now. A few moments after spotting the first pair, 4 more showed up (2 more pairs of m & f). I was definitely in Rambo form (aka...hiding in the bushes) and felt like I was watching HD TV - so exciting!! This couldn't have worked out better since my Father and I built 3 Wood duck boxes the day before hoping we could boost the population down there. I couldn't have been more pumped.
Stay tuned, I plan on posting some pictures of our handy work and some of the puddle. The boxes are really easy to make!
Another great weekend in the woods......."Get the Fever"

Wood Ducks are my favorite duck. If I get a male, he's going on the wall. Still searching for a golden antler.

I hiked with the dog for 2-3 hours today, but didn't find any. Was still looking for the big 8 pointers sheds, but I don't know where he dropped them. Just soooo many thick spots of cutover, marsh, phrag and switchgrass for them to be laying in.

When leaving my parents house tonight, a group of deer were feeding in the yard. O ne of them was still sporting a pair of spike antlers. You heard me right, STILL HAD ANTLERS. I turned the car around just to get a second look. Holding pretty late.

Nothing here & I can't tell you how many miles I've walked in the past couple of weeks. Total finds while turkey hunting have been 3 doe skulls (people may need some more target practice) and an arrow.
I'll be keeping my eyes open though.

I saw a matched set of antlers at 8 am today but they were still attached to the buck that grew them. They were white as snow and he is still trailing a group of does as I'm writing this. He looked to be about a 15" wide 6 point. The does were still running from him, I guess he's trying to get that last piece before spring.
