Has anyone been in the woods lately. Its been about a week for me and I was wondering what the deer were doing. I did get to check my cameras and noticed more bucks traveling lately, mostly early, early morning (3,4,5 AM.)

Just hunt the camera back out Thursday, there were 130 pics on it today but I didn't pull to check it, just filled the corn pile. They sure are eating some corn!!! I'm hitting the whitetail woods this evening, hunting the oaks on a hunch and wind direction...

Monday, Sept. 24th. Tried a new spot in point lookout "Buzz's marina" Great place! Looked a lot like the eastern shore, sand, thick woods with gullies full of standing water, mosqitoes that were so bad, I had to get down drive to the store to buy 100% deet and then climb the tree again. Hot 88 degrees. Saw 16 deer between 7 and 7:45. 15 in a bean field I was hunting, 300 yards away. One behind me in the thick I only heard snort when climbing down to stalk the deer in the field. Never got closer than 150 yards.

Saturday Sept. 29th. Charles county farm. I didn't see any deer but Reed, who was hunting the same property, saw two does. We did find a dead doe in a dried up stream bed, face in a puddle of water covered in 100's of thousands of maggots. I have some good pics but dial up doesn't allow me to post very easily.

Has anyone been hunting, or are we all still in our shorts and t-shirts. Just got back in town From W.V. The weather up their sucks too, all last week was 75,80 degrees. I saw alot of deer but it was real early morning, or late in the evening. Hardly any movement after 8:30 AM.

I saw scrapes and rubs during the early muzzle loader season. Guys were also seeing small bucks chasing does in that heat can you believe it? I know one guy who slept in after a long card game on Friday evening, got up at 9:15 am on Saturday to walk outside the hunting cabin to take a leak. While he was doing his business he spotted a 8 point buck chasing a does behind the cabin, he was able to stop what he was doing, go inside, get his gun, come back outside and while standing in his boxer shorts shot this buck at 15 yds., it ran about 30 yds. and piled up behind one of the other guys trucks right in the access road. This is one of the funniest hunting stories I have ever heard, and it's true. Only in Nanjemoy ;D ;D

won't be long till the rut is in full swing. seems they are starting to break out of the bachelor groups and starting to fight. Been seeing the little bucks getting frisky when I have been out lately. won't be long before the big boys are going at it. When I was on the hunt with my dad, SAT. night we went fox hunting and saw 2 big bucks squaring off in a feild about 300 yards away. we didn't want to disrupt them so we only watched for a minute. BUt they were squaring off, pretty neat. look forward to some cold weather coming in soon. hopfully this rain will help as well.
